Agile IT Solutions (ABN 15 651 541 137) is an Australian managed IT services provider founded in 2007 by Linden Jackson. Independent and locally owned. Headquartered at C6/41 Watt Rd, Mornington VIC 3931, with a Melbourne office by-appointment at Level 2/88 Jolimont St, East Melbourne VIC 3002. We work best with businesses of roughly 5 to 50 staff (also smaller scaling teams, and larger businesses on AgileCOMPLETE) across professional and financial services, transport and logistics, hospitality, wineries, manufacturing, and not-for-profit. The strongest depth is in professional services. Credentials: Microsoft AI Cloud Partner, SMBiT Professionals founding member, SMB1001 and Essential 8 aligned. ## Service model All managed services are delivered as a **fixed monthly fee**, typically per user, with the scope agreed upfront. No per-ticket billing. Project work that sits outside the managed scope is quoted separately before any work begins. ## AgileMANAGED platform The managed technology platform, delivered in two tiers: - **AgileMANAGED REMOTE**, from $85 per user per month (ex GST). Remote support, monitoring, security baselines, and Microsoft 365 management. - **AgileMANAGED COMPLETE**, from $130 per user per month (ex GST). Everything in Remote, plus onsite support, managed servers and critical systems with 24/7 NOC, and quarterly business management reviews. ## Service areas within AgileMANAGED - **AgileSECURE**, managed cyber security aligned to the SMB1001 framework. From $44 per user per month (ex GST) once the environment is at baseline. Delivered as part of an AgileMANAGED engagement, not sold as a standalone product. - **AgileAI**, ongoing managed AI enablement and governance (Microsoft Copilot, AI policy alignment). Initial AI Enablement from $25 per user per month (ex GST), covering staff AI tool training and strategic planning; larger AI requirements are scoped as a separate project. RSS feed at https://agileit.com.au/rss.xml. - [AgileINSIGHTS hub](https://agileit.com.au/blog/) - [Five things we learned at an IT conference that had almost nothing to do with IT](https://agileit.com.au/blog/what-we-learned-at-next-level-2026/), News, July 2026, a first-person recap from Linden Jackson of Next Level 2026, the SMBiT Professionals national conference (23-24 July 2026, Western Sydney Convention Centre; Agile IT has been a founding member since 2010); five business-owner takeaways rather than IT trivia: (1) the economy is slowing not contracting, per keynote economist Dr Sherman Chan (Chief Economist, Australian Property Institute), GDP up 0.3% a quarter against a ~2.6%/yr average, productivity down ~7% from peak as the real drag, RBA not expecting inflation back in band until H2 2027, so plan for a tight couple of years and make every dollar return time saved or cost avoided; (2) when money is tight clients ask better questions, so providers should quantify outcomes (hours saved x value) not sell capability, and per ABS the top barrier to tech adoption is in-house skills for small business and cost/benefit uncertainty for medium business, both communication problems that belong to the provider; (3) AI has moved from speculation to real numbers, one Gold Coast firm reporting first-response times down 80% and resolution down 90%, another spending $700/mo heading to $2,000 (AI is priced below cost while vendors buy share), with two cautions, treat AI as an insider threat and check its numbers (a demo showed accounting software reporting 119 days to collect an invoice when the real figure on the same screen was 24), and note most staff already use AI so a one-page acceptable use policy is the cheapest risk reduction available; (4) the industry has no barrier to entry, so the professionalism panel backed mandatory professional indemnity and cyber insurance, plus a federal cyber security professionalisation scheme, expected to arrive via the supply chain (big customers imposing standards down the chain), so ask any provider what PI and cyber insurance cover they hold and what they are genuinely expert in versus what they resell; (5) in most small businesses the owner is the ceiling, management consultant Sarah Williams naming five growth ceilings (customer, capability, systems, leadership, cash flow) and the diagnostic of whether you could take a 4-6 week holiday, and closing keynote Gus Balbontin (ex-Lonely Planet) contrasting Lonely Planet using the internet to sell more books with TripAdvisor using it to solve the customer's problem (travelling), plus his rule to ask any supplier how you would exit before you buy; the through line is that technology is no longer the hard part, knowing which problem is worth solving and not depending on one person is; CTA offers a one-page AI acceptable use policy template; ties to the-year-we-grew-36-and-made-4000, govern-your-teams-ai-use, reactive-it-is-a-cost-deferral and backup-exit-strategy-data-portability; AU spelling, no hype, non-promotional recap - [Your Business IT, Our Responsibility: what that actually means](https://agileit.com.au/blog/your-business-it-our-responsibility/), How we work, August 2026, a first-person explanation from Linden Jackson of the Agile IT tagline "Your Business IT, Our Responsibility" and, crucially, where that responsibility stops; the sentence splits deliberately, "Your Business IT" means the technology stays the client's (their data, systems and direction, no lock-in) while "Our Responsibility" means the burden of making it work moves to Agile IT, summarised as "you keep the control, we take the load"; what Agile IT owns is framed as things they are not allowed to say (no "that is the telco's problem", no closing a ticket while the client's problem is still live, no being surprised by something they should have been watching) plus the technology working day to day, being secure/patched/backed up with tested restores, risk found early and explained in plain terms, problems owned end to end across vendors, honest advice including unwelcome advice, and proactive communication; the explicit boundary is that Agile IT does NOT take responsibility for the business itself, because whether to spend, when, which risks to carry, and how IT ranks against a new hire or vehicle are decisions only the owner can weigh, stated as "we own the how, you own the whether", with a warning that any provider who wants that authority should give you pause; what Agile IT owes in return is that the client never decides in the dark (plain language, real numbers, actual business risk, and an honest recommendation including when that is to spend nothing); on a declined recommendation the position is that outcomes follow investment and the risk stays open, but responsibility changes shape rather than ending, so Agile IT explains the exposure in business terms, records the decision so it stays visible, keeps it on the agenda, protects what it can around it, and explicitly will NOT quietly drop it nor bank "I told you so" for later; three things that make the partnership work best (bring us in early, give a decision even a no because silence is hardest, let us do the boring preventative work); every engagement includes a Responsibility and Accountability Matrix; ties to why-agile-it.html (shared responsibility model), the-cheapest-laptop-is-rarely-the-cheapest-outcome, reactive-it-is-a-cost-deferral, what-makes-a-great-it-partner and what-happens-in-a-discovery-conversation; AU spelling, no hype, deliberately non-blaming of clients - [Restarting your computer is not the same as shutting it down](https://agileit.com.au/blog/restart-vs-shut-down-windows-11/), Productivity, September 2026, a plain-language Windows 11 explainer for non-technical business users on why Restart gives a cleaner, more complete reset than Shut down: the cause is Fast Startup (on by default on most laptops and PCs), so clicking Shut down performs a hybrid shutdown that saves the Windows kernel and loaded drivers to a file on disk and reloads that saved snapshot on the next boot (fast, but nothing underneath is actually reset), whereas Restart always performs a full clean shutdown that discards the snapshot and rebuilds everything from scratch, so a machine "turned off and on again" overnight may still carry yesterday's state while a thirty-second restart clears it; what a restart actually does is spelled out (clears the memory/RAM including leaked memory that makes a machine feel sluggish, ends stuck processes and services, reloads Windows and all device drivers from scratch which is why a dropped screen/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/printer often returns, resets the network connection which clears many "internet is not working" and "cannot see the printer" faults, and finishes installing pending updates), returning the computer to a known-good starting point and resolving a large share of everyday glitches that are simply accumulated state; the healthy habit is a genuine restart about once a week (more often if you keep many applications open, the machine never really gets turned off, or the moment it feels slow, and always when Windows prompts you because an update is usually waiting), with the key trap that sleep and closing the lid reset nothing and hibernate only saves and restores state, so a laptop that only sleeps and is only "shut down" with Fast Startup on can go weeks without a true restart; how to force a real shutdown when wanted (hold Shift while clicking Shut down for a one-off, or permanently untick "Turn on fast startup" under Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do), though for most people the weekly restart habit is simpler than changing the setting; notes that on machines Agile IT manages, updates and required reboots are handled in the background; ties to reactive-it-is-a-cost-deferral and still-running-windows-10-youre-now-unsupported and 5-microsoft-365-settings-worth-checking; AU spelling, no hype, practical helpdesk tone - [What to do in the first hour of a cyberattack](https://agileit.com.au/blog/what-to-do-in-the-first-hour-of-a-cyberattack/), Security, September 2026, an Australian incident-response guide for small and medium business, written so a non-technical owner can follow it in the moment: the premise is that the first hour decides how bad an attack gets and that most avoidable damage comes from the panicked reaction, not the attack; four things NOT to do first (do not power the affected computer off, because that can wipe evidence held in memory; do not delete the ransom note, suspicious email or alerts; do not pay a ransom on the spot; do not discuss the attack from a possibly-compromised account); the ordered steps (isolate the affected devices from the network by pulling the cable and switching off Wi-Fi rather than powering down, per ACSC guidance; phone, not email, your IT provider and then your cyber insurer, since many policies require their incident team early; preserve the evidence; if money moved, call the bank immediately to halt and recall the transfer; reset passwords and enable MFA from a known-clean device; then report it); Australian reporting is localised to ReportCyber at cyber.gov.au and the 24/7 Australian Cyber Security Hotline on 1300 CYBER1 (1300 292 371), with no US or UK bodies; a distinct legal thread on the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act, where a breach likely to cause serious harm must be notified to the OAIC and affected individuals as soon as practicable, with up to 30 days to assess a suspected breach (a ceiling, not a target); the ransomware pay question answered as the ASD and law enforcement advise against paying (no guarantee of recovery, marks you as a payer, funds the next attack), a decision for your incident-response team, insurer and the ACSC together, and a reminder that a free decryptor may already exist; and a preparation section arguing for a single-page plan (who to call and their numbers kept offline, where the backups are and proof they have been restore-tested, which accounts and devices matter most); the three things to remember under pressure are disconnect the devices, phone your IT provider, touch nothing else, plus phone the bank if money moved; ties to third-of-all-data-loss-caused-by-problems-with-backups, cyber-health-check, cyber-insurance-renewal-questions, stop-scammers-sending-email-in-your-business-name and agilesecurity.html (AgileSECURE); AU spelling, calm and hype-free - [How to stop scammers sending email in your business name](https://agileit.com.au/blog/stop-scammers-sending-email-in-your-business-name/), Security, August 2026, an Australian-framed explainer on email spoofing and domain authentication for small and medium business: the problem is that anyone can put your domain in an email's From line and send it, with no hacking of your systems, because email by design never verifies the sender (the From line is as trustworthy as a handwritten return address); localised with the ASD/ACSC 2023-24 figure of almost $84 million in self-reported business email compromise losses at an average of more than $55,000 per confirmed incident, and a pointer to ACSC anti-spoofing guidance; explains the three DNS records that stop exact-domain forgery, SPF (a published guest list of servers allowed to send for your domain), DKIM (a cryptographic seal proving a message is genuinely yours and unaltered, signed with a private key whose public half sits in DNS), and DMARC (ties the two together, enforces that the visible From matches what SPF/DKIM validated, and reports who is sending as your domain); the key mistake it calls out is DMARC left at p=none (monitor-only, which reports but blocks nothing), versus p=quarantine and p=reject where real protection begins, with Microsoft's guidance to progress toward reject once legitimate mail passes ("a smoke alarm with the siren unplugged"); the two gaps these records do NOT close, lookalike domains (yourbusiness-invoices.com) and display-name spoofing, which still need staff to read the full address and verify payment changes by phone; the deliverability angle that Google and Yahoo have required SPF, DKIM and DMARC from bulk senders (5,000+ messages a day) since February 2024 and Microsoft applied similar rules to Outlook.com and Hotmail through 2025; and a staged fix (publish SPF and DKIM covering all real senders including third-party services, add DMARC at none, then move to quarantine and reject once reports are clean), noting a careless DNS change can send your own mail to spam; setup creates a key pair, the private key never leaves the device, the website holds only the useless-on-its-own public key, and sign-in answers a cryptographic challenge; built on the FIDO standard that Apple, Google and Microsoft all implement); why passkeys cannot be phished (the passkey is bound to the real domain and will simply not work on a replica login page, so there is no secret to hand over, no password list to steal in a vendor breach, and nothing to reuse across sites, unlike SMS codes which can be intercepted or socially engineered and push approvals which can be fatigued into acceptance); the Australian regulatory angle that most international coverage misses, namely that the ASD and ACSC updated the Essential Eight so Maturity Level 2 requires phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication for privileged user accounts, sensitive data repositories and elevated privilege actions, with SMS and ordinary Authenticator push now treated as legacy; where passkeys already work (Microsoft, Google and Apple accounts, banks, password managers) and the difference between synced passkeys (backed up to a Microsoft, Apple or Google account, survive a lost phone) and device-bound passkeys (single device or hardware security key, the usual choice for admin and finance accounts); Microsoft 365 already includes passkeys through Microsoft Entra at no extra cost including the free tier, usable via Microsoft Authenticator, a security key, Windows Hello, Face ID or Touch ID, and Microsoft measures a synced passkey sign-in at about 3 seconds against about 69 seconds for a password plus traditional MFA code, roughly fourteen times faster; the rollout advice is to start with administrators, finance and anyone who can move money or change systems, let everyone else opt in alongside their existing login, register a backup device or security key before it is needed, turn the weak SMS fallback off (because an attacker will simply choose the fallback), and make a plan for shared devices and shared logins; the honest caveats are account recovery when someone loses their only registered device, and uneven vendor support meaning passwords run alongside passkeys for a while; ties to the essential-eight page, agilesecurity.html (AgileSECURE), cyber-basics, and the quishing-qr-code-phishing and cyber-insurance-renewal-questions posts; Who can see the recording?](https://agileit.com.au/blog/ai-note-taker-who-can-see-the-recording/), AI, August 2026, a practical guide for Australian small businesses on AI meeting note-takers (Microsoft 365 Copilot in Teams, Otter, Fireflies, Fathom): what they actually do (join a Teams, Zoom or Google Meet call, record audio and sometimes video, transcribe, and email a summary), and the three questions nobody asks before one is installed; who can see the recording (every attendee and often people who were merely invited, the vendor whose servers hold it, and, when a staff member connected the bot with a personal login, an account the business does not own, cannot audit and cannot recover at offboarding); whether the tool trains its AI on your meetings (Microsoft documents that Microsoft 365 Copilot does not use prompts, responses or Microsoft Graph data to train its foundation models and keeps content inside the organisation's Microsoft 365 service boundary, while third-party tools vary enormously and only their specific terms will tell you); and consent, where the post corrects the US-centric advice found elsewhere: Australia has no single recording law, in Victoria, Queensland and the Northern Territory a participant may generally record a private conversation without the others consenting, while in New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia the starting position is that all principal parties must consent, so a single video call across states can engage more than one rule at once, and a recording of an identifiable person is personal information under the Privacy Act (explicitly not legal advice); the argument is that "is it legal" is the wrong first question and that legal and appropriate are different tests; six rules are given (approve one tool, turn auto-join off, announce recording and allow objection, prefer tools that keep data in your own tenant, check default summary sharing, keep bots out of legal, HR, financial and confidential client meetings), plus the note that Microsoft 365 administrators can control Copilot and Teams transcription centrally; the concrete shell shown in earlier posts is now a workspace, with carpet down, ceilings and lighting in, glass partitions dividing the upstairs, the illuminated C signage switched on at dusk, a kitchen with a stone benchtop installed, and the curved communal timber deck and landscaping taking shape out the front; honest that trades are still on site finishing the facade and a snag list remains; the business is running as normal from the current office until the new one is ready; ties back to the new-home and watching-the-new-office-take-shape posts and to /where-we-work/; the five stages are do it yourself and control the cost (IT is a task not a function; illustrated with Linden's own bathroom renovation, where doing it himself saved money but took months, was not his best work and left a snag list), get help when things break (reactive, calling whoever set it up; the business feels the impact but nothing underneath has changed), start seeking advice not just fixes (the point where IT stops being purely technical and becomes a business decision), build a trusted partnership (a supplier fixes things, a trusted partner helps decide how things should work and shares responsibility), and take IT seriously and run it properly (defined standards, a planned environment, managed security, clear accountability, pointed at business outcomes); the central argument is that taking IT seriously is not about spending more or gold-plating but about deciding how it should work and running it that way consistently, that the hardest place to be is stuck between stages with a constant low drag and unseen risk (untested backups, unreviewed access), and that the real question is not whether you will get there but whether you recognise it early or get pushed there when something breaks you cannot afford to get wrong; Here is what actually happened.](https://agileit.com.au/blog/we-rebuilt-our-website-with-ai/), AI, August 2026, a first-person behind-the-scenes from Linden Jackson (Managing Director, Agile IT) on rebuilding the agileit.com.au website with an AI assistant, framed as "we tried it on ourselves first", exactly what a client wants from their IT provider; the project the business had started and abandoned two or three times over the years (it always came back to the owner to write the copy and never got finished) was completed in a weekend by feeding in the about-us, values, services, target client profile and brand voice and pointing the AI at the old site for the colours; the surprises were that it built clean plain HTML with no content management system and no plugins to buy, it could sweep a single change across every page at once, and it handled the technical work that normally costs months (metadata, sitemap, structured data, AI-search groundwork) and even built interactive tools (a security health check, a cost estimator, a hardware replacement calculator); the honest limit is stated plainly, it does not make the owner a web developer, it lets someone who knows what they want and what good looks like finally get it built, the judgement is the job and building is what the tool is for; safety was handled the way it would be for a client, read-only first, scoped access to the specific job rather than the keys to DNS or email, a private local preview, then live; ties to AgileAI and the-good-the-bad-and-the-bot, which-ai-and-what-is-safe and govern-your-teams-ai-use - [The cheapest laptop is rarely the cheapest outcome](https://agileit.com.au/blog/the-cheapest-laptop-is-rarely-the-cheapest-outcome/), Managed IT, August 2026, a trusted-adviser buyer's guide arguing that a device's purchase price and its real cost to a business are rarely the same number, so judge on total cost of ownership, not the shelf price; the issue is not where you buy the laptop but whether it is suitable and how much work it needs to be business ready; retail devices are built for home users and often ship with Windows 11 Home, trial software, consumer support and non-standard configurations, so to run inside a managed Microsoft 365 environment they frequently need a Windows Professional upgrade (Home cannot be centrally managed; Business Premium, Intune and Entra ID generally need Pro), a clean-up (remove trial software, apply privacy and security settings, update firmware, drivers and BIOS) and compatibility testing (most enrol fine, some need remediation where drivers, firmware or manufacturer software fight the management tools); Agile IT is happy to support client-supplied devices, and the recommendation for business-grade kit is about smooth deployment and long-term supportability, not hardware margin; standardising on business-grade devices lowers ongoing support cost through fewer different drivers, firmware and warranty processes; retail can be perfectly fine when the device already runs Windows Pro, the specification matches the role, the MSP has reviewed it and any deployment costs are understood; the key is advice before purchase, a five-minute conversation avoids expensive surprises; ties to AgileEQUIP and the microsoft-365-business-premium-vs-standard, still-running-windows-10 and smart-eofy-tech-spending posts; AU-framed - [The Good, The Bad and The Bot](https://agileit.com.au/blog/the-good-the-bad-and-the-bot/), AI, August 2026, an honest, first-person reflection from Linden Jackson (Managing Director, Agile IT) on a year of actually using AI in a small business, framed as the good, the bad, and the bot; the good is that AI removes the blank-page problem and the bottleneck between knowing what you want and having it, plus the mental shift from treating AI as a helper inside Word or Excel to treating it as the tool that drives Microsoft 365, shown by building a read-only performance dashboard across helpdesk, CRM, quoting and device management, rebuilding the whole website, and adding a security health check, cost estimator and hardware replacement calculator; the bad is that AI succeeds too easily and tempts overreach (the "Superman" trap), it agrees with you too much so you must push back, and it does not know what good looks like while assuming you do (thirty years of experience lets you spot a wrong incident-response plan a first-year cannot), plus clients pasting ChatGPT's fix into a support ticket, and real usage limits and monthly cost; the bot is the honest reveal that this website and its tools were built by an AI with Linden beside it (clean HTML, no CMS, it found its own studies, updated seventy-seven pages at once, and mostly does not argue), the point being that AI lets someone who knows what they want and what good looks like finally build it, not that it replaces judgement; lands on treating AI as an accelerator with guard-rails, not an autopilot: start read-only, scope access to one job, check the output, keep sensitive data away; ties to AgileAI and /ai-discovery/ and to the which-ai-and-what-is-safe and govern-your-teams-ai-use posts; AU-framed, hype-free owner voice - [From chatbot to agent: what Anthropic's finance AI release means for your business](https://agileit.com.au/blog/anthropic-finance-ai-agents/), AI, July 2026, on 5 May 2026 Anthropic released ten ready-to-run Claude agent templates for financial-services work (Pitch Builder, Meeting Preparer, Earnings Reviewer, Model Builder, Market Researcher, Valuation Reviewer, General Ledger Reconciler, Month-End Closer, Statement Auditor and a KYC Screener) and made Claude available as an add-in inside Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word, with Outlook to follow, carrying context across apps; named users include Citadel, BNY Mellon, Carlyle, Mizuho and Travelers; the post's argument for SMBs is that the headline is finance but the real story is the shift from chatbot (answers a question) to agent (carries out a multi-step task across tools while a human reviews and approves), that the same Claude models already sit inside Microsoft 365 Copilot so the capability is arriving in software businesses already use, and that the workflows being automated (reconciliations, month-end, KYC onboarding checks, document review) are the everyday admin of any business with a finance function; the part worth copying is the governance, not the cleverness: approved tools, scoped per-tool permissions, managed credential vaults, a human in the loop and a full audit log; three practical steps are tidy your Microsoft 365 permissions first, put a simple AI policy and approved-tools list in place, and start small and reviewable because even the best models are not perfect; ties to AgileAI, AgileAI Foundations, the govern-your-teams-ai-use and prepare-microsoft-365-permissions-for-copilot posts, the Microsoft 365 Copilot includes Claude post, and to /ai-discovery/; AU-framed, covered by the Australian Financial Review - [Quishing: the QR code scam your email filter cannot see](https://agileit.com.au/blog/quishing-qr-code-phishing/), Security, July 2026, quishing is phishing delivered through a QR code instead of an email link; why it works (the destination is hidden inside an image so email filters cannot read it, the check happens only after you arrive, and you usually scan on an unmanaged personal phone outside the company security stack), why a QR code gets past defences an email link would not (attackers embed codes in PDF attachments to slip past filters that only scan text links), and the three delivery methods (a fake sticker placed over a real code on a parking meter, EV charger or menu; a code hidden in a PDF invoice or document; a flyer, poster or business card); three habits keep teams safe: treat every QR code like an unknown link and go to the real website yourself, make accounts payable a QR-free zone so payments only happen through typed-in logins, and check physical codes for tampering by running a fingernail along the edge; notes that MFA helps but is not a complete defence against real-time session theft; ties to AgileSECURE (email gateway that decodes QR codes in attachments, phishing-resistant MFA, mobile device management) and to /security-discovery/ for a free assessment; AU-framed with Scamwatch and the Australian Cyber Security Centre - [How to answer cyber insurance renewal questions without voiding your policy](https://agileit.com.au/blog/cyber-insurance-renewal-questions/), Security, July 2026, why cyber insurance renewal applications got longer and more specific (shaped by the 2023 MOVEit supply-chain breach, the 2024 Change Healthcare ransomware incident and the 2024 Arup deepfake wire fraud) and how to answer each new section without overstating your controls; the tightened backup question (immutable or air-gapped, tested within 12 months, inaccessible to domain admin credentials, with native Microsoft 365 retention no longer a passing answer), MFA enforced across email/VPN/RDP/admin/service accounts plus the move off SMS and privileged access management, callback verification for funds transfers and deepfake-awareness training, EDR versus MDR and the end of the 'we have antivirus' answer, and vendor risk with SOC 2 Type II; the central warning is misrepresentation and rescission, where a forensic review after a claim finds the declared controls were not in place and the insurer voids the policy from inception; includes a 30-day pre-renewal checklist; ties to the SecureVIC theme that insurance is one of three sources of obligations, and to /security-discovery/ for a free assessment - [Prepare your Microsoft 365 permissions before a Copilot rollout](https://agileit.com.au/blog/prepare-microsoft-365-permissions-for-copilot/), AI, July 2026, Microsoft 365 Copilot retrieves files, emails and chats through Microsoft Graph using each signed-in user's existing permissions, and in most tenants those permissions are broader than anyone has mapped because access accumulates across years of projects, ad-hoc sharing and staff changes; if the permission exists Copilot can use it regardless of whether it was scoped appropriately; examples of what a broadly-permissioned tenant can return (salary spreadsheets, closed client matters, deal pipelines, former-employee records, internal pricing) and why a small senior-staff pilot is often the highest-risk version because senior staff hold the widest access; the cleanup Microsoft recommends before any trial (SharePoint sharing audit via SharePoint Advanced Management, OneDrive external share review, Teams membership review, and Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels with DLP and encryption to keep confidential content out of Copilot), typically four to eight weeks for a 25-to-100-person firm; the one question to send your IT provider; ties to AgileAI and the /ai-discovery/ session - [5 Microsoft 365 settings worth checking in your tenant](https://agileit.com.au/blog/5-microsoft-365-settings-worth-checking/), Security, July 2026, Microsoft has tightened several Microsoft 365 defaults over the past few years but the changes do not apply retroactively, so tenants set up before about 2022 or configured by a previous provider often still carry legacy settings; five worth verifying: the default SharePoint and OneDrive sharing link (older tenants often still allow 'Anyone with the link' with no expiry), external email forwarding rules (now blocked by default at tenant level but pre-existing inbox rules can still export data), historical third-party app consents (a default user consent policy arrived July 2025 but apps granted access earlier keep it), mailbox and tenant audit log retention (180 days for Audit Standard since October 2023, one year for key workloads on E5 or Purview Audit Premium, with regulated industries needing more under the Privacy Act and APRA), and MFA enforcement with Security Defaults versus Conditional Access (older tenants can end up with Security Defaults off and Conditional Access not covering everyone); includes a sensible rollout order and ties to the free Cyber Health Check - [Why bad onboarding is the real cause of messy offboarding](https://agileit.com.au/blog/why-bad-onboarding-causes-messy-offboarding/), Managed IT, July 2026, a clean staff exit takes about 90 minutes of IT time when identity, devices and access were set up properly at onboarding, but turns into a three-week cleanup when they were not; the joiner-mover-leaver lifecycle and how a rushed joiner phase defers the work; four onboarding shortcuts that guarantee a messy exit (letting new hires sign up for SaaS tools on their own, tolerating unmanaged personal devices, shared logins to avoid per-seat costs, and client relationships living in one person's inbox); how to retrofit hygiene on an existing team with a card-statement SaaS audit, a device register with managed app access, and shared mailboxes or CRM logging for client communication; what your IT provider should do at onboarding (central identity, single sign-on, mobile device management and a maintained handover document); and a 60-day plan before the next round of departures; ties to AgileMANAGED and AgileEQUIP - [Guardz Elite: a compliance step-up for AgileSECURE](https://agileit.com.au/blog/guardz-elite-compliance-step-up/), Security, June 2026, Guardz (the cyber security platform Agile IT layers over clients' Microsoft 365 environments and the engine behind AgileSECURE) has released a new top tier called Elite, above the Ultimate plan that every AgileSECURE client runs as standard; AgileSECURE itself does not change, Elite is an optional step up for clients with specific compliance and data-regulatory obligations; Elite adds three things on top of the Ultimate baseline, outbound email data loss prevention and encryption (stopping sensitive client, financial or personal data leaving by email in the clear), deeper forensic-grade endpoint telemetry with active threat hunting (analysts proactively hunting threats that have not yet tripped an alert), and forensic deep-dive investigations (root cause, scope and timeline you can hand to an insurer, regulator or client); the common thread is evidence, the doing-versus-proving gap from the SecureVIC webinar, and the controls map directly to Australian drivers, the Privacy Act and the anti-money laundering reforms from 1 July 2026, an SMB1001 Gold position with documented governance and evidence, and cyber insurance renewal applications that now ask about outbound DLP, email encryption, EDR depth and forensic readiness; who should consider it, regulated industries (accounting, legal, financial services, health), businesses holding sensitive personal or financial data or moving client funds, businesses targeting SMB1001 Gold, and businesses whose insurer requires these controls; most businesses are well served by the Ultimate baseline and Agile IT does not upsell Elite by default; Guardz lists HIPAA (US health regulation) under Elite which is not directly relevant to Australian businesses, though the underlying controls are the same; ties to AgileSECURE, the Guardz Ultimate post, the cyber insurance renewal post and the SecureVIC recap - [What we learned running our first SecureVIC webinar](https://agileit.com.au/blog/securevic-first-webinar-recap/), Security, June 2026, a recap of the first SecureVIC for Business webinar held on 10 June 2026, a 45-minute online session for Victorian SMBs co-presented by Linden Jackson (Managing Director, Agile IT Solutions) and Nikita Raina (Founder, Secura Advisory, a Melbourne cyber governance/risk/compliance consultancy); the spine of the session is that cyber security is a shared responsibility, not a job handed entirely to the IT provider, with distinct accountabilities for the IT provider (deploy, monitor and manage technical controls), the owner/directors (strategy, risk acceptance, investment, compliance), leadership/management (staff and putting policy into practice) and every employee (following procedures); Nikita set out the three sources of a business's security obligations, the law (Australian Privacy Act, anti-money laundering reforms), contracts (clients/suppliers increasingly require evidence of controls) and insurance (cyber insurers expect proof of controls and can refuse a claim without it), and the point that ignorance of an obligation does not remove it; the central, reassuring finding is that most businesses already do the right things (backups, training, rules) but lack the evidence to prove it (no training records, unsigned policies, untested backups), and the gap between doing and proving is where exposure sits; SMB1001 is the practical Australian framework presented as the way to turn this into a plan, levels from Bronze (firewalls, antivirus, basic hygiene) up to Gold (incident response plans, signed policies, AI usage rules), covering technical and governance controls together, contrasted with ISO 27001 which is built for large enterprises, expensive and externally audited, whereas SMB1001 is not legally mandatory and is a stepping stone; Agile IT is aligning AgileSECURE to SMB1001; on AI, Nikita named three risks (data leakage into public tools, over-reliance on unverified output as a professional liability, and shadow AI where staff use unapproved tools) and recommended an AI acceptable use policy, an approved tool list and clear data-sharing guidance, while Linden recommended Microsoft Copilot for businesses in the Microsoft ecosystem because it keeps data in the tenant and cautioned against personal AI subscriptions; the single most useful action is to document what you already do; anyone can run the free self-service Cyber Health Check at https://agileit.com.au/cyber-health-check/, and Agile IT and Secura Advisory offer a free 30-minute Teams call assessing a business against the SMB1001 Silver baseline via /security-discovery/ - [How managed IT, security and governance fit together](https://agileit.com.au/blog/managed-it-security-governance/), Security, June 2026, where managed IT support fits as the operational layer that keeps Microsoft 365, identity, devices, backups and the network running, and where it stops at the point the business needs to make governance decisions (who should have access, what the acceptable use is, what the policy says); why security still feels reactive in most businesses despite the tools being present, because risk accumulates from many small gaps (an ex-staff account still active, an over-shared folder from two years ago, admin rights never removed, a backup never tested) rather than from one catastrophic failure, and the fix is a rhythm of periodic review rather than more tools; what layered security means in practice with five layers reinforcing each other (identity with MFA and conditional access, email with phishing protection and link rewriting, endpoints with EDR and patching, data with classification and backups, governance with written policy and evidence) so no single control is asked to be perfect; SMB1001 in plain English, the Australian cyber security maturity framework built specifically for SMBs by Dynamic Standards International, with five levels (Bronze through Diamond) where Silver is the practical baseline AgileSECURE is aligned to and Gold adds formal policy and review; ties to AgileMANAGED operational layer and AgileSECURE governance layer - [Upgrading to nbn full fibre: what FTTP means for your business](https://agileit.com.au/blog/nbn-fttp-upgrade-australian-business/), Managed IT, May 2026, what an nbn full fibre (Fibre to the Premises, FTTP) upgrade means for Australian businesses; full fibre runs fibre all the way to the premises with no copper in the last stretch, giving more consistent speeds and fewer drop-outs for video calls, cloud apps and uploads; nbn business plans offer wholesale download speeds from 100Mbps up to 2000Mbps and upload up to 500Mbps, with upload often the forgotten bottleneck for cloud backup and hosted phones; honest caveat that wholesale speeds are not end-user speeds (real experience depends on plan, provider network, equipment and concurrent users); the business nbn service tier worth asking for (installs by business-grade technicians with after-hours appointments, extended equipment placement up to 30 metres on eligible higher-speed plans so the box can sit in the server rack, fault restoration targets of 4 or 12 hours, case-managed support, existing service kept running during transition and monitored for 30 days); not available on Fixed Wireless or satellite; how to plan the switch (check availability via nbn upgrade programs, match the plan to real usage, cut over outside trading hours, test phones and key apps, treat router and internal network as part of the job); cites UK NCSC guidance (once tech is out of date the only fully effective fix is to stop using it) and Windows 10 end-of-support 14 October 2025; three categories where age combines with risk (end-of-support edge devices like firewalls/VPN gateways/routers, obsolete products that cannot be patched, 'it still works' servers with neglected basics like patching/services/permissions/restore testing); the core risks (permissions overreach as documented by OWASP, change-over-time risk as updates quietly add permissions, sensitive cloud-app data exposure); the 5-step routine (vet the developer like a vendor, read the description like a contract, do a permission sanity check, watch for permission creep on updates, decide approve/avoid/escalate); the pattern (polished approach, push off-platform to WhatsApp/Telegram, credibility wrapper like assessment or interview pack, the pivot to payment or personal information, manufactured urgency); LinkedIn removed 80M+ fake accounts at registration in H2 2024, but enough leaks through to reach real employees; five practical defaults (slow down, verify through official channels, keep conversations on-platform, hard-stop on money/sensitive-info/verification-code requests, easy blame-free reporting); red flags (vague role, mismatched web presence, free webmail account, dodging verification); cites the 2025 Verizon DBIR (12,195 confirmed breaches), IBM 2025 Cost of a Data Breach Report (USD 4.4M global average), and Microsoft 2025 Digital Defense Report (58% rise in storage-account data theft); four checks to leave on your terms (verify portability up front, treat migration as high-risk with phishing-resistant sign-ins and managed devices, tighten session controls during the move, monitor for unusual access during the window); honest notes on what Copilot will not do well (hallucinations, limited to tenant data, not a substitute for legal/financial review); ties to AgileAI managed enablement (clean permissions model, usage policy, training that focuses on time-saving prompts) - [The year we grew 36% and made $4,000](https://agileit.com.au/blog/the-year-we-grew-36-and-made-4000/), How we work, May 2026, the talk Linden Jackson gave at the SMBiT Professionals conference in October 2024: a year that looked great on revenue (FY23/24 turnover up 36%, about $250K extra) and almost flat on profit ($4,000 increase); the "easy" slide and the slide he almost did not show; what had quietly gone wrong (cost creep, headcount before operations cleanup, scope creep on contracts, slow to walk away from non-fit work); the "Stop" framework (stop hanging out in the comfort zone, stop winging it, stop and clean up the tool shed, stop the leaks); why peer groups (SMBiT since 2010, IT Nation Evolve) matter, not for the answers but for the room that will ask the question you have been avoiding; the broader lesson for SMB owners (revenue is loud, margin is quiet, the version of the year you publish should match the version that ended up in the bank); ties to AgileMANAGED fixed-fee predictability - [Smart EOFY tech spending: what to buy before 30 June (and what to skip)](https://agileit.com.au/blog/smart-eofy-tech-spending-2026/), How we work, May 2026, an honest, non-tax-advice take on EOFY tech spend for Australian SMBs heading into 30 June 2026; why EOFY matters for tech in plain terms (Instant Asset Write-Off, prepaid expenses, installed and ready for use); the five spend categories that usually do make sense (overdue hardware refreshes, the Windows 11 catch-up after the 14 October 2025 Windows 10 end-of-support, baseline cyber security tooling, software you were going to renew anyway, network and meeting-room gear with clear payback); five EOFY traps to skip (buying for the tax break, hardware that will not arrive in time, prepaying software you may churn, stockpiling consumables, rushing big strategic projects); how to plan it in the next few weeks starting with your accountant; what AgileMANAGED clients already get and what Agile IT explicitly will not do - [Still running Windows 10? You are now unsupported](https://agileit.com.au/blog/still-running-windows-10-youre-now-unsupported/), Security, May 2026, Windows 10 support ended on 14 October 2025; what running an unsupported OS actually means for risk, compliance, cyber insurance, and Essential Eight alignment; the realistic upgrade paths (in-place upgrade to Windows 11 where hardware allows, replacement program for older devices, Extended Security Updates as a last resort and at what cost); what Agile IT does for AgileMANAGED clients; how to confirm whether you are still on Windows 10 - [Lock your computer when you walk away, the security habit most teams skip](https://agileit.com.au/blog/lock-your-computer-the-security-habit-that-actually-matters/), Security, May 2026, the cheapest cyber security control is locking your screen; what an unlocked computer actually exposes (M365 sessions, CRM, accounting, password manager, active MFA); three scenarios that should change the calculation (visitors, shared spaces, after-hours access); the keyboard shortcuts (Windows + L, Control + Command + Q); the technical safety net (inactivity lock, encryption, conditional access, remote wipe); how to make it stick across a team - [Guardz Ultimate now uses Check Point for email security, what it means for AgileSECURE](https://agileit.com.au/blog/guardz-ultimate-now-uses-check-point-email-security/), Security, May 2026, Guardz has switched the email protection layer inside Guardz Ultimate to Check Point Harmony Email and Collaboration (the former Avanan technology); no project work and no extra cost for AgileSECURE clients - [Microsoft 365 Copilot now includes Anthropic Claude, what it means for business AI](https://agileit.com.au/blog/microsoft-365-copilot-now-includes-claude/), AI, May 2026, summary and Agile IT commentary on the Microsoft announcement that Anthropic Claude Opus 4.7 is now available inside Microsoft 365 Copilot; fully attributes the source to Guardz - [Microsoft 365 Copilot is now the simple, secure way to use AI in your business](https://agileit.com.au/blog/copilot-the-simple-secure-ai-for-business/), AI, May 2026, why Copilot is the simplest and most secure AI for Microsoft 365 SMBs; the three things that separate Copilot from public AI tools (lives where the work lives, your data stays your data with tenant-bound permissions and sensitivity labels, built to be managed); where Copilot earns its keep (email triage, meeting capture, first-draft documents, spreadsheet analysis, SharePoint search); honest limits; how AgileAI deploys it as a managed rollout - [How working with Dijital Team makes Agile IT a better service partner](https://agileit.com.au/blog/how-dijital-team-helps-us-serve-clients-better/), How we work, May 2026, why Agile IT works with Dijital Team for offshore team capacity and the Better Business Pathway program;
