Montalto: 15 years of IT support for a busy Mornington Peninsula destination venue

A busy Mornington Peninsula destination venue with around 100 staff across hospitality, viticulture and operations. The technology has to be reliable seven days a week, ready for any event, and out of the way when the focus needs to be on the guests.

The shape of the business

Montalto is one of the Mornington Peninsula's well known destination venues: a working winery, a restaurant and cellar door, an extensive sculpture park, and a regular events program. Around 100 people work across viticulture, hospitality, events and operations, with the business open to the public seven days a week.

The technology challenge

A destination venue has technology requirements that look unusual compared to a typical office-based SMB. Point-of-sale runs all day in the restaurant and cellar door. Online and phone booking flows have to be reliable, every day, with no excuse for being down at midday on a Saturday. Events bring in additional staff and infrastructure that have to be supported on short notice. And underneath all of it, the office, the finance team, the marketing team, and the wine club operations have to keep running like any other 100-person business.

What that profile demands from a managed IT partner is presence. It is not enough to react well when a ticket comes in. The team needs a partner who is across the operational rhythm of the venue: when the busy weeks are, when an event is coming up, when a system change would land well or badly. That depth of understanding takes years to build, and is part of why long-term relationships in this kind of business work better than vendor cycling.

What Agile IT delivers

Across 15 years, Agile IT has been the single accountable IT partner for Montalto. The arrangement covers the full stack, from the back-office Microsoft 365 environment through to the operational infrastructure that keeps the venue running on busy days. Onsite support is part of the model; the team is across the layout of the venue, the people, and the cycles of the year.

The phrase Heidi uses, "know what we need before we do", is a fair description of what 15 years of strategic partnership in one venue actually means. It is the difference between a managed IT vendor and a partner who is at the table when decisions are being made.

“We are a busy destination venue on the Mornington Peninsula with 100 employees. Agile has looked after our IT for 15 years as we’ve grown and know what we need before we do. We feel secure with Agile IT on our team.”

Heidi Williams, Montalto

Why the relationship has lasted

A 15-year client relationship is rare in any commercial arrangement, and almost unheard of in managed IT. Montalto has stayed because the model fits the business: one partner, accountable across the whole environment, with the depth of operational understanding that only comes from being present across years of the venue's cycles. That is the difference between a vendor managing tickets and a partner managing risk alongside the team.
