The Category · Your Business IT, Our Responsibility
What is business technology management?
Most growing businesses do not have a technology problem, they have a responsibility problem: nobody clearly owns the decisions, the security, the renewals or the plan. Business technology management closes that gap for 5 to 50 staff businesses across Melbourne, the south east and the Mornington Peninsula: one partner responsible for the whole, measured by how few technology problems you experience.
Defined
Buying responsibility, not tasks
Business technology management is the discipline of running a business’s technology as a managed whole: the strategy, security, risk, compliance, suppliers and day-to-day support, under one accountable owner. It is the difference between buying IT services and buying confidence that somebody competent is responsible for the outcome.
Most providers sell service categories. IT support fixes things when they break. Managed services monitor and maintain. Cyber security protects. All necessary, and all activities. What an owner actually needs sits above them: manage, govern, advise, improve, protect, and own the outcomes. That is the category we work in, and it is what “Your Business IT, Our Responsibility” means in practice.
How it fits together
One category, six pillars, and the activities underneath
Read it top down: the category is what you buy, the pillars are how it is organised, the activities are what gets done.
Level 1 · The category
Business technology management
Confidence that somebody is taking responsibility for your technology, security, risk, compliance, planning and improvement. The accountable owner of the whole, answerable for outcomes rather than tasks.
Level 2 · The pillars
Outsourced IT Department
The whole IT function, support through to strategy, delivered by one partner for a fixed monthly fee.
Cyber Security
Identity, email, endpoint and data security run to the SMB1001-aligned baseline, as a function rather than a fright.
Microsoft 365
The platform most of our clients run on: administered, governed and continuously improved, not just installed.
AI Strategy
Deliberate, governed adoption: the repetitive work automated, the human kept as the filter and approver.
Technology Governance
Policies, compliance obligations, a risk register with owners, and evidence somebody actually maintains.
Business Continuity
Backups tested by restoring, recovery that has been rehearsed, and an exit you could execute if you had to.
Level 3 · The activities
IT support, helpdesk, monitoring, projects, networks, devices. The visible work, and the easiest part to buy. Activities are things we do, delivered through AgileMANAGED; the category above them is what you are buying.
Where we deliver it
Business technology management across Melbourne and the south east
We run the category from our Mornington office, as we have since 2007. Most of the businesses we manage sit across the Mornington Peninsula, Frankston and the south east, accounting and professional practices, manufacturers in the Dandenong South industrial corridor, trades and logistics operators, with clients through to the Melbourne CBD. The common thread is not the suburb or the industry; it is a business of 5 to 50 staff that depends on technology and has nobody staffed to own it.
The arrangement answers to several names in a search box: technology management services, outsourced technology management, a virtual IT manager, technology leadership for small business. Whatever you typed to get here, the test is the same, who owns the outcome, and the full list of suburbs and regions we cover is on our where we work page.
The test that matters
Measured by how few problems you experience
A provider should not be graded on how many tickets it closes. The right measure of business technology management is how few technology problems your business experiences: fewer recurring faults, fewer renewals rolling over unexamined, fewer decisions deferred until they become emergencies. IT support is something we do. Taking responsibility for your technology is what you are buying.
Delivered, not theorised
A business technology management platform
We deliver the category through a published platform rather than a bespoke quote. AgileMANAGED runs the department: AgileCORE from $85 per user per month ex GST, or AgileCOMPLETE from $130 with onsite support across Melbourne and the south east. AgileSTRATEGY adds the management layer most small businesses have never had: the roadmap, the budget, the quarterly reviews. AgileSECURE carries the security pillar.
The platform is the same whoever you are: a Frankston accounting practice and a Carrum Downs manufacturer start from the same published rates and the same documented responsibilities. What changes is the roadmap we build together, because that part belongs to your business, not to a template.
Common questions
Business technology management FAQs
What is business technology management?
Business technology management is the discipline of running a business’s technology as a managed whole: strategy, security, risk, compliance, suppliers and day-to-day support under one accountable owner. The buyer is not purchasing tasks; they are purchasing confidence that somebody competent is responsible for technology outcomes.
How is it different from managed IT services?
Managed services describe a delivery method: monitoring, maintenance and support for a fixed monthly fee. Business technology management describes the scope of responsibility: who owns the plan, the risk, the governance and the improvement, not just the upkeep. A managed service can exist without anyone owning the technology direction; business technology management cannot.
Who needs business technology management?
Any business large enough to depend on technology but too small to staff its own IT department, in practice about 5 to 50 staff. The need shows up as symptoms: decisions deferred, renewals rolling over unexamined, security assumed rather than evidenced, and technology responsibility sitting with whoever is least busy.
What does business technology management cost?
Our pricing is published, not saved for a meeting: AgileMANAGED from $85 per user per month ex GST (AgileCORE) or $130 (AgileCOMPLETE), with AgileSTRATEGY providing the planning layer. For most businesses the whole arrangement costs well under one full-time IT hire.
Who is responsible for what?
The split is written down. Agile IT owns the technical recommendations, service quality and support, implementation and operations, and the evidence of what is and is not working. The business owns the decisions, the risk appetite and priorities, the budget and timing, process and people change, and acceptance of residual risk. Our responsibility matrix publishes this in full.
